New Mexico Telegram: Udall Backs Kerry for Secretary of State

Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., voted to recommend Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass, as the next Secretary of State today.

Kerry, a Vietnam Veteran, is expected to easily be confirmed by the Senate and replace current Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. The vote from the full Senate could come as early as today.

“I am confident John Kerry will serve our country well as Secretary of State,” Udall said in a statement about his vote. “He is a decorated war hero who returned from battle to serve in a variety of ways, including as an outspoken activist, prosecutor and United States senator.”
