Raton Range: Federal legislation seeks to address pay gap; Udall co-sponsor of Senate bill to boost enforcement of laws

Fifty years after the Federal Equal Pay Act of 1963 mandated equal pay for men and women doing equal jobs in the workplace, Congress is again considering legislation aimed to further close what is described as a pay gap between women and men.

In an effort to better protect women from the gender pay-equity gap cited by various studies, the Paycheck Fairness Act is being considered by Congress, with New Mexico U.S. Sen. Tom Udall a co-sponsor of the Senate Bill that was introduced by Sen. Barbara Mikulski of Maryland. A U.S. House version of the bill is also being considered.
